German and Aztec warfare were based on an identical dynamic: feeding the god with an endless stream of blood. You can call the entity in the name of which sacrifices were made the "sun god" or "Germany." Doesn't matter. In our hearts the dream remains the same.

Warfare is an institution whose purpose is to keep the phantasy of an omnipotent object alive--by producing sacrificial victims.
