ANALYZING OUR COLLECTIVE NIGHTMARE
Richard Koenigsberg

I've often written about AWAKENING FROM THE NIGHTMARE OF HISTORY. I've researched and written about this idea for quite a while and have shared my findings (please scroll down for photos). The nightmares I studied, however, occurred in the past.

Political nightmares no longer are "history." Today we live within a collective dream that possesses and oppresses many Americans--from which it is difficult to awaken. We are surrounded by this nightmare. We feel and see it each time we are exposed to "the News." The so-called "reality principle" (how archaic this concept now seems) has the feeling of a pervasive nightmare.

Psychoanalysis for many years has been "locked within the box" of the clinical situation; psychopathology conceived as the psychopathology of individuals. It is now clear an entire society can be taken over or possessed by psychopathology.
