Jews and German Soldiers: Dying for Hitler

RECOLLECTED IN TRANQUILITY:: TOWARD THE FINAL SOLUTION

The nature of Jews, according to Hitler, was their UNWILLINGNESS TO SACRIFICE FOR A COUNTRY, not only unwillingness to sacrifice for Germany, but for any country. This, Hitler believed, was the essence of what it meant to be a Jew: cowardice = unwillingness to sacrifice their lives for a nation.

Hitler couldn’t bear the idea that Jews were exempt from the sacrificial imperative: the only people   unwilling to die for a country. Jews, Hitler insisted, would not be exempt. They too would be compelled to do what German soldiers were doing: dying for Hitler.
