Koenigsberg's Lecture at California State University
(Toward the conclusion--IV).

"Contemplating the idea of separation from the community, Hitler fell into a desperate, murderous rage. In his mind, if just a single human being imagined he was separate from the community, his phantasy of symbiotic union with Germany  would collapse.  The idea of separateness was projected into “the Jew,” symbol of an individual refusing or unable to bind to a community.

"I theorize the Jew represented Hitler’s own desire to separate from the community; abandon his obsessive attachment to Germany. Hitler repressed or denied this desire.

"The wish for separation was projected into the Jew.
Hitler then attempted to kill off that part of himself that
wished to separate from Germany by killing Jews, who symbolized this desire.  But the impulse to become a
separate individual cannot be extinguished. Hitler was in
pursuit of an impossible dream."
