(Toward the conclusion).
GERMANY AS A SINGLE ORGANISM:
EXTERMINATING THINGS WHICH TEAR THE VOLK APART
“My Movement,” Hitler said, “encompasses every aspect of the entire Volk.” It conceives of Germany as “a corporate body, a single organism.” The German nation was imagined by Hitler not as an “imagined community,” but as a living being. The German people fused into one to constitute this organic being. It followed there could be no such thing as ”non-responsibility in this organic being, not a single cell not responsible for the welfare and well-being of the whole.
"Hitler imagined German human beings as cells of the German body politic. Margaret Mahler defined symbiosis as 'omnipotent psychosomatic fusion.' The Nazis recreated this phantasy in the individual's tie to Germany. In this imaginary, each German existed fused to the nation. The mass-rallies actualized this phantasy as thousands of people gathered together to create the illusion of a single body acting in unison.
"What brought the National Socialist Movement into being,
Hitler said, was the yearning for a “true community” of the German Volk. Fate had given him the great task of
eliminating the disunity of the Volk. Yet the Movement could only fulfill this mission if it uncompromisingly 'exterminates the things which tear our Volk apart'.”
