I get the feeling when I connect with the culture or society in which we are now living, we are immersed within a shared psychosis. Don't you get this feeling whenever you connect with the Internet? Everyone throws around words like "insane" and "mad," but they can't say this in a more formal way: shared psychosis.
We are at the end of an era, more than at the end of an era, the end of a way of thinking that has dominated Western civilization and thought. What those textbooks used to say, that man is a "rational animal." Do they still say that in Freshman political science classes? Students might wonder what you are referring to.
Bizarre ideas are thrown out from everywhere, all over the place, from those in power, and from anyone, because the Internet gives EVERYONE A VOICE. It's a free country. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
The only opportunity to be sane is to touch lightly upon this world that consists of an endless assault on sanity.
What happened to the good old concept of the "reality principle?" Out to lunch, that bunch.
Reality as shared psychosis. The word "madness" and "insanity" crop up continually in postings. and media discussions. But rarely are these ideas developed systematically.
The American Psychiatric Association says that people have be "clinically examined" before making judgments about mental illness. What a joke that statement is.
POOR BANDY LEE. She actually thinks the that the American Psychiatric Association supposed to SUPPORT HER when she tries to tell the truth. Why does she want or expect their support? She longs to be "popular."
Did everyone cheer Galileo? Were Darwin's ideas welcomed into the fold of society? I've often reproduced the scene from the wonderful movie about FREUD, when the entire auditorium of psychiatrists is yelling, screaming at him, spitting when he introduces the ideas of infantile sexuality.
Today, to avoid difficult ideas, people simply "opt out" if ideas become difficult. But SO RARELY TO PEOPLE OPT OUT FROM THIS FORUM. although they rarely contribute (except a few of the great ones such as Atran, Griffin, Skya, Strenski, Levene, Tyner, Magrass.
One lady responded personally to a post and said something along the lines of, "Please don't show this to anyone." She was afraid she'd get in trouble with the authorities at her college. Even a brilliant thinker like Robert Samuels, after a ZOOM session we did together, had doubts about whether he should express his version of the truth at his University. The students might not like it.
YES, it's come to this. Institutions of higher education, whose only purpose is to discover and convey truthful ideas, are hesitant to pursue the truth.
Seems like the main objective of academics is to add items to their CVs. The goal of higher education to create a CV. Add one item after another (almost immediately after returning from a conference). Doesn't matter if anyone reads what one has written. The CVs the thing to catch the eye of the King
The media commentators: many of them doing their best to weather the storm. Yet the ENDLESS BABBLE, saying the same things over and over again, proving the obvious over and over again. "And this is the final straw." They said that in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022. Hysteria, Psychosis. Delusion. The world if "reality" collapses.
"Thank you for having me on." Almost every guest uses the same words. And then the guest smiles as he or she report mass-murder, the end of American democracy, the latest lie, etc. Well, at least they have been invited to be on television.
Mei Ha constantly asks me, "Why aren't you famous? Why aren't you famous?" The definition of "fame" in today's, it seems, is to get DEATH THREATS. Then one knows one has "made it."
The greatest revolutions in thought occur based on small groups of people. I've always imagined ten people; my tough colleague, the warrior Andrew Hammer, suggests seven.
Anyway I do have 1900-2000 people read every message, essay or paper I sendout. It would be helpful if you wrote back occasionally with some of your own ideas.
Best regards,
Richard Koenigsberg
