Hitler articulated and enacted the central fantasy of nationalism: creation of an immortal body (politic) through elimination of the “enemy,” i. e., that which contradicts or negates the fantasy of immortality.
Oppression is an inner state of being derived from identification with a nation or culture experienced as a massive body attached to the self. One is weighed down and diminished by this symbolic object (experienced as a psychosomatic presence).
The self is negated by the fantasy of an entire nation (culture, or the symbolic order) attached to the self. One feels connected to something larger than oneself, making one feel small and insignificant.
Hitler declared, “You are nothing, your nation is everything:” Lacan's said the same thing: "There is no other but the other."
If your nation or the other is everything, then you are simply a small biological creature heading toward death. This is the case. However, we are not "nothing," only a vulnerable human being.
On the other hand, to wish to be omnipotent is what it means to be human. This is the bedrock "desire" of human beings (civilized apes): eternal existence through identification with an immortal object.
The volk is a double of the self: the king’s second body. Totalitarianism means everyone is contained within and constitutes the body politic. One Reich and one Fuhrer, each and every human being existing in a state of fusion with this omnipotent body politic.
Totalitarianism means there is is no such thing as someone or anything separate from this body. The totalitarian fantasy is that nothing can exist apart from the national organism, which contains each and every human being as a cell of this gigantic organism.
St. Paul’s fantasy of the church as human bodies united to constitute one body (the body of Christ) is where this fantasy begins: the foundation of Western civilization.
The dream of immortality means identifying with a body politic: escaping from one’s own body and relocating the self into a new body; crucify oneself with Christ.
Sacrifice means abandoning one’s frail body in the name of the immortal one with which one imagines one's own body is fused. Nationalism enacts the fantasy of fusion with an immortal body."
When people said to Hitler that Germany was dead and done for, he declared: “That no one can, no one must say to me. Germany must live.”
No one could say to Hitler that his immortal nation could die. Whatever negated the fantasy of German immortality had to be destroyed. The Jew symbolized the perception that there is no such thing as immortal bodies. Each and every body is moving toward death.
The Holocaust (killing Jews) meant killing what negated the fantasy of national immortality. The Jew symbolized the death instinct, i. e., the truth. Hitler couldn't bear this truth. He tried to kill the truth by killing Jews.
The “parasite” is the fantasy of an object that drains the life of the self. The parasite is the immortal object, German itself. What is parasitic is belief in the immortality of one's nation, which requires sacrifice of one's concrete human existence, perhaps even sacrificing one's life.
The parasitic Jew imagined to be sucking the blood of Germany--was precisely Germany. Germany--the fantasy of immortality--was the parasitic entity. The Jew = Germany in its negative guise. The Jew symbolized the German nation sucking the life out of individual Germans. The Jew was the negative side of the Nazi’s attachment to Germany: obedience unto death.
