Human Violence: To be or not to be

Richard Koenigsberg

Human violence is structured around belief and disbelief. For some human beings, belief in a particular god or ideology becomes the foundation of identity.

This god/ideology could be Allah or the German nation or "America." It doesn't matter what the belief or ideology is. It's the nature of the attachment to the belief.

Violence is directed toward human beings who negate the belief of the passionate believer. Without the god or ideology, the true believer feels he would be lost. Hitler declared to the German people, "You are nothing, your nation is everything."

Everything--or nothing. The non-believer or infidel threatens to cause the believer to dissolve into nothingness. Hitler called Jews a "disintegrator of peoples." Without his belief in Germany, Hitler would fall apart.

Human violence means "death to the non-believer." Nothing to do with genes or natural selection.

On the contrary, those who believe most deeply cause the deaths of millions of their own people--in the name of their god or ideology.

"Aggression" is designed to kill off disbelief.

It's a matter of "life or death." Belief or disbelief. Existence or non-existence.
