When everyone in the world was a square, the term "sublimation"  was valorized--got top billing. But Freud wrote that sublimations (the "finer and higher satisfactions") were mild compared with the pleasure derived from sating "crude and primary instinctual impulses that convulse our physical being."

There are millions of websites. But the most popular ones are those that depict human being sating "crude and primary instinctual impulses." Freud understood human beings better than his critics. The proof of the pudding is in...pornography.

History of Civilization: Volume III:
Ecstatic Sexual Gratification

Freud wrote about the “artist’s joy in creating” & the scientist’s pleasure in “discovering truths.” These “finer and higher” satisfactions (sublimations), however, were mild compared with the pleasure derived from “sating crude and primary instinctual impulses that convulse our physical being” (1930). The balance of the 20th century revolved around uncovering desires and fantasies that had been repressed–in order to fulfill Freud’s dream of ecstatic sexual gratification.
