Most Americans wouldn't be able to identify a Mexican if they saw one, and probably no one has come into contact with a Mexican Rapist. Yet this idea or fantasy--of the danger of Mexican rapists crossing the border--dominated politics for five years: a psychotic delusion that structured the political domain.

People called it "reality"--because nearly everyone participated in or partook of the dream or delusion. 

Nobody wanted to be left out, it's a family affair (hmmm...notice the image connected with the song...wasn't aware of this until just now!).

Now people are "bored," waiting for the next psychotic delusion to arise--to provide erotic stimulation to the empty self.
