The idea that Americans are being "raped" by Mexicans is illuminating--theoretically productive: allowing us to begin to perceive how personal fantasy (psychology) becomes transformed into national fantasy (psychology).
Fantasies of individuals are projected into the external world--shaping ideological thought. Collective or shared fantasies become political "positions" or policies.
The fear of penetration is almost biological: something to do with the immunological defense of the self.
The immunological tendency is projected outward. Membranes of one's body become a "wall." The experience of one's own body is transformed into a national experience. The fear of rape becomes "national defense." Rather to blow up the world than be penetrated by an alien other.
