SYMBIOSIS, NATIONALISM AND HUMAN DESTRUCTIVNESS

(1) SYMBIOSIS is one of the most fundamental psychoanalytic concepts: the desire to fuse or be "at one" with another human being--or an object.

(2) The
teddy-bear inherits symbiotic desire. This is what we call a "transitional object."

(3) Eventually, one's entire culture becomes a transitional object. The INTERNET is the most humongous transitional object in the history of the world.

(3) Rudolf Hess declared, "Hitler is Germany, just as Germany is Hitler." Nationalism is symbiotic attachment.

(4) The photo directly below conveys the essence of symbiotic nationalism. The flag becomes a substitute for the mother, as well as a piece of clothe replicating a teddy-bear.

(5) The atrocities committed in politics grow out of symbiotic attachment to a nation. Only "love of country" justifies mass-murder.

(6) Inability to separate from the mother or the symbolic equivalent of a mother--can be the source of massive destructiveness. Psychoanalysts developed "attachment theory" as a denial of the destructiveness of symbiotic desire.
