Psychoanalysts have spent a great deal of energy trying to refute the concept of "symbiosis." They miss the point. 

Whether or not symbiosis constitutes an "infantile phase of development, the symbiotic fantasy of oneness is transferred onto a symbolic object, namely the country, symbolized by "a flag" (see below).

Everything Hitler or Trump (see images below) did do or can do or will do--is a function of the fact that that their own bodies are identified with a flag body; union with the mother (as Nancy Korbin says).

Concepts like Trump's narcissism or psychopathy are thrown around so wildly today--as if what is occurring in politics today is primarily a function of individual psychology.

National oppression and violence is a SUPER-EGO function, undertaken and justified in the name of one's country. Actions are undertaken (or advocated) to defend ect the mother (protect her from being violated or raped).

China insists that Taiwan must RETURN TO MOTHER CHINA. Separation is not allowed. Violence seeks re-union: denial that anyone can exist under a condition of SEPARATION from the mother-country.

Because these men are so deeply identified with a woman, they develop an intense (counter-phobic) masculinity.
