HITLER AND MARGARET MAHLER:

How Symbiotic Phantasies Create Political Reality

In this paper, MAKING CONSCIOUS THE UNCONSCIOUS IN SOCIAL REALITY, I explore how Hitler's UNCONSCIOUS PHANTASIES were externalized: to create political reality: "Hitler projected his own symbiotic fantasy into political units. Austria symbolized Hitler’s body, and Germany the body of his mother. Hitler’s political ideology aimed to destroy the boundaries separating Austria and Germany—so that the two separate bodies politic could fuse into one.

The actualization of this fantasy would mean that henceforth the “twofold destinies of Austria and Germany” would be “eternally one.” If Hitler had his way—fulfilled his dream—there would be “no separation of history into Germany and Austria.”

It's almost as if Hitler had been reading Margaret Mahler. Rather, what occurred was that Hitler externalized his own symbiotic fantasies into political units. This is another methodology for confirming or validating psychoanalytic hypothesis: to observe how unconscious phantasies are EXTERNALIZED to create political and social reality.
