Internalized objects exist within specific body parts: the chest (producing heart "attacks"), stomach or duodenum (producing an ulcer), leg or thigh (producing varicose veins). You know where your weak spot is: that's your internalized object punishing you.

If you are suffering some pain within your body--within a bodily part--most likely there is a psychosomatic component.

Psychoanalysts during the past 15-20 years have idealized the other and the mother and attachment.

We know better: attachment can produce the deepest forms of psychopathology. Nationalism is the best example of attachment as psychopathology: fanatic devotion to one's own country; willingness to kill "others" who are not part of one's country.

This psychopathology is so common that we conceive and perceive it as "normal." Historians nowadays even have begun to conceive genocide as normal, producing the specious argument that anything that happens frequently within societies is "normal."

Normalization of the fantastic, the anthopological delusion: foot-binding, heart extraction, bride-burning.

Newsletter of July 15, 2020, 7:02 AM (Wednesday): "Liberation from Internalized Object (The Psychodynamics of Body-Building)."

"Internalized objects" have a psychosomatic presence within the self. Body-building (and other physical fitness regimes) seek to "eject" internalized objects from within the self: the quest for autonomy; a form of separation-individuation.

Internalized objects (introjects) have a "will of their own" (Melanie Klein). They are not under control of the subject.

Internalized objects may exist within specific body parts. Within the heart (producing a heart "attack"), within the stomach or duodenum (producing an ulcer), within the leg (producing varicose veins).

Well, you know where your weak spot--your sore part--is: that is your internalized object fighting with you; punishing you.

Body-building seeks to reclaim the body for the subject: to reclaim a body part; to liberate the body from an introject.

Internalized objects may be experienced as alien and malignant, as foreign bodies producing the equivalent of an "immune response" as the body seeks to eject the object from within the boundaries of the self. But the introject is also a love-object, and this complicates things. What's more, the internalized object loves the self. Does not wish to be ejected (mother is always with you).

Body-building was (and is) a societal movement whose purpose is to reclaim the body for the self. Only those who have not participated think that the purpose of working out is to have a body one can "show off."

Rather, body-building is the deepest form of meditation, and profound pleasure for the self: reclamation of one's own musculature. What you see is not what it is.
