Below are some of the central concepts that I developed and presented through the Library of Social Science Newsletter in 2019. Each sentence is a highly condensed version of what I've learned and know.
Each sentence condensed approximately 400 pages of notes.
Hope you find the ideas useful.
Best regards,
- Warfare is potlatch: destruction of human capital. Dead soldiers are gifts to the gods.
- The First World War was a martyrdom operation: Each soldier was like a suicide bomber.
- Hitler was attacked by poison gas in the First World War. He attacked Jews with poison gas: do unto others as has been done unto you. The Jew in the death camp symbolized the German soldier in a trench.
- Hitler's question: Why did the best men die in the First World War (the heroic soldiers). And why did the worst survive (those who shirked their duty to fight).
- Hitler identified with Robert Koch, who discovered the tuberculosis bacteria. He identified Jews as bacteria, cause of the nation's illness. He was the Robert Koch of Germany: removing the Jewish bacteria in order to save the national organism.
- Nazism was a death cult. Everyone had to die for Germany. Nationalism on steriods.
- The Law of Sacrifice: ideas become real when we die for them.
- Euthanasia of the mentally ill was the first phase of Nazi mass-murder. Killing Jews evolved in an organic way out of killing mental patients.
- The Proof of the Pudding is in the dying: this is why we believe that nations exist. As soldiers (and others) die, so do nations come alive.
- The logic of the Holocaust followed based on the logic of warfare. If soldiers had to die for their country, why shoudn't Jews die as well. Reductio ad absurdum. Hitler was sending us a message about the ugliness of war: it is not sweet and beautiful to die for a country. The Jew in the gas chamber was a parody of the dead German soldier in a trench.
- The objective of warfare is to produce dead bodies—testifying to the greatness of the nation-state. Which side are you on? Doesn't matter. The illusion is that it matters (which side you are on). As long as dead soldiers are scattered on the battlefied, this proves that nations exist. "Oh the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air...gave proof through the night that our flag was still there."
- Warfare seeks to create corpses. We create corpses so that we can honor the dead. Soldiers die so that we can honor them: create memorials. They "gave their lives" for all of us.
- Jews were conceived as a people unwilling to buy into Hitler's sacrificial fantasy. They were party-poopers...who refused to embrace the glorious national community. Killing Jews brought them back into the fold: they too would die when Germany asked them to do so.
- The German nation was conceived as a living organism whose life was more valuable than the lives of actual organisms (human beings). "You are nothing, your nation is everything."
- Hitler felt and believed that Germany was falling apart. Jews were the source of disunity: NEGATION of unity. Conceived as "non-believers" whose doubt would cause the nation to disintegrate. Jews were imagined by Hitler as a class of people unwilling to die for a country.
- World conquest, for Hitler, meant that everyone had to die for Germany. He sought to produce an endless stream of blood: to feed the monster (the nation-state).
- Individualism or separation was forbidden.
- Warefar is a template of self-destruction enacted in many societies at many times and places. The template precedes the action. Wars are created (when necessary) to feed the hungry god.
- Hitler was Doctor of the German people: Removing Jewish microorganism (source of the nation's disease) in order to save the patient (the German organism)
